Dr. Joseph Conerty

When you walk into therapy, you want someone who remembers, connects the dots, and helps you make sense of your story in a way you never have before. My approach is about weaving together the threads of your life so you can see yourself more clearly, and start living more intentionally.

My Approach in Therapy

There’s no one-size-fits-all. Sometimes we’ll carefully explore emotions to help you grow and find meaning. Other times, we’ll use practical, symptom-focused strategies like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to create sustainable relief.

What my clients appreciate most is the combination of attentiveness, memory, and perspective that comes from years of working in complex systems and now offering that care in a highly confidential, personalized practice.

How It Works

Leadership Rooted in Real Experience

My Background

I spent nearly a decade in VA hospitals, supporting veterans through some of the most intense trauma imaginable. Later, I worked with court-ordered clients at the state and federal level, including those facing high-stakes legal situations. That experience sharpened my ability to hold space for complex, painful realities. I bring these skills into every session.

I’ve built my practice in Bergen and Passaic County since 2022, working with young adults and professionals who want more from life than just “checking the boxes.”

Professional Leadership

In addition to clinical practice, I’ve served as:

  • President, Rutgers GSAPP Alumni Organization (2020–2025)

  • Elected Board Member, New Jersey Psychological Association (2026–2028)

  • Member, Ethics Committee, New Jersey Psychological Association (2022-2025)

  • Member, American Psychological Association

  • Member, National Register of Health Service Psychologists
